Guidance

Talis Clinical’s suite of solutions provides Clinical and Operational Guidances throughout the Perioperative Care Episode. Starting with gathering of information and pre-operative testing decisions, through following the patient to post-operative recovery or the intensive care unit, the Advanced Clinical Guidance Engine scours disparate documentation, exposes escalating patient physiologic issues and manages complex business logic needed to support the quality and efficiency required for targeted outcomes.

Clinical Guidances Supporting

  • Administration of correct pre anesthesia assessment and testing
  • Detection of rare clinical events
  • Medication usage
  • Exposing critical information in handoff
  • Reduced 30-day post-surgical mortality

Operational Guidances Supporting

  • Compliant reporting and administration of care
  • Care team logistics and coordination
  • Facility utilization maximization
  • Optimal Recovery-room time
  • Revenue capture and cycle improvements

Key attributes of Talis Clinical’s Guidance:

  • Guidances in Real-time - latency impacts quality and operations.
  • Pertinent patient data pursues the care team.
  • Guidances that find the responsible care giver at any stage and on any platform.
  • Remote views, stratifications, hand-off summaries and scorecards available on all networked platforms, remote devices, and dashboards.
  • Guidances that are configurable by Healthcare Organizations, Providers and Administrators.
    • “Global” guidances to support organization quality and operational initiatives
    • “Personal” guidances that support individual staff or supervisory conditions
    • “On the Fly” guidances to support imminent and unexpected conditions
  • A comprehensive Knowledge Base available to support rare events, out-of-range clinical conditions, medications, and standard operating procedures to ensure targeted outcomes.

Workflow

Talis Clinical designed and continues to refine clinical documentation with the input of 700 clinicians across a wide continuum of care; from the highest acuity healthcare campuses to ambulatory surgery centers. Clinical documentation is widely recognized as a top physician dissatisfaction driver. In 2012 the American Medical Association (AMA) commissioned RAND Health to evaluate factors affecting physician professional satisfaction. This study identifies the current state of EHR technology as a major source contributing to dissatisfaction. (View Report)

Talis Clinical’s approach optimizes the focus of the clinician on the patient.

  • Intuitive workflow designed for perioperative surgical episode utilizes highly customizable procedural templates that employ human factor design principles and fit your workflows.
    • Touch screen data entry supports fast and compliant documentation with little non- discrete text
    • Single-Click documentation supports quick medico / legal documentation for compliant reporting and billing
    • Smart Notifications and Verifications support critical compliance benchmarks for quality and billing
  • Automated Data Acquisition frees up the clinician to focus care on the patient — not documentation.
    • Vital signs capture from all bedside devices
    • Lab notifications and results
    • EMR and other patient data systems (i.e., history and physical, medications, and problem lists)
  • Configurable templates to meet a wide range of clinical care settings – from high acuity, complex surgeries to fast procedures in remote locations

Visibility

Patients are supported by different care teams throughout the perioperative process. Ensuring communication of key parameters from preoperative to intraoperative to postoperative units optimizes care and decreases risk. Additionally, while patients are in the operating room and recovery areas, they may not be in the continuous presence of supervising physicians.

All Talis Clinical applications improve the care team’s Visibility of the patient, resulting in better coordination of care and improved utilization of resources

  • Talis Provider Portal™ streamlines all the front-end documentation and work-lists into a seamless view of the patients’ unique requirements. No information gets dropped or buried in other more burdensome documentation platforms.
  • Deployed in the Operating Room, ACG-Anesthesia™ and ACG-Perfusion™ expose the entire state of the surgical event at the point of care and beyond through multiple views.
    • Outside the OR, dashboards display clinical and operational data to the entire coordinating team. Smart Alerts and Guidances are pushed to mobile devices of supervisory staff, allowing immediate access to the point of care.
    • Paging, texting, and communicating through the tools further enable care coordination
  • Talis Remote View™ applications for the PACU and ICU allow for improved care coordination by disseminating pertinent patient data to a provider centric view accessible on any mobile device.
    • Real-time automatically collected vital signs, ventilator data with waveforms
    • Trend views incorporating previous occurrence data
    • Consolidated Hand-Off Checklists and Case Summaries
    • Smart Care Stratifiers add another level of surveillance to ensure adherence to organization's guidelines

About Us

Talis Clinical was formed to meet the higher purpose of supporting safe patient care, while positively impacting the clinicians and providers.

Our story begins with an initiative started over 10 years ago at the Cleveland Clinic to build a perioperative documentation system to support anesthesia care. This extensive development moved from documenting complex anesthesia workflows to providing guidance that could expose opportunities to improve patient care in real-time at the point of care.

Today this tool supports the Cleveland Clinic and is leveraged as the standard of care in approximately 600 locations.

Planning the worldwide commercialization of this tool began in April of 2012 with Cleveland Clinic Innovations. By February of 2013, Talis Clinical formalized the commercialization strategy and hired the original development team.

Today, Talis Clinical markets a product that supports the entire Perioperative Surgical Home (PSH). Our goal is to “Heighten Awareness of the Entire Anesthesia Management Opportunity.” We are honored to be carrying forward the work started by the anesthesiologists and engineers who initiated this important work.
